ABOUT
I am a potter and art historian based in Peckham, South East London. I make mostly wheel-thrown pottery in my home studio /dining room.

I began working in ceramics in 2017 after enrolling in a series of evening classes. At that time I had just moved to Brooklyn, NY with my husband and I was working on completing the final stages of my PhD in art history. I was looking for a new creative outlet, a means of decompressing after long days of writing and editing and an opportunity to meet new people and settle into a new city.

Like so many before me, I fell in love with clay quickly, and have never really looked back. I was lucky to have found a communal studio which offered evening classes together with studio membership, which gave me the opportunity to spend far too much of my time there at the wheel, practicing and experimenting.

I took a break from ceramics when my daughter was born at the beginning of 2019 and moved back to London at the beginning of 2020, and since then I have been slowly setting up my studio here. I now have a kiln and a wheel and feel grateful to be able to be making again.

By instinct I want to make ceramics that feel warm and welcoming--pots with tactile surfaces, rich colours and quiet, balanced forms that draw you to them and invite you to touch and hold them. I want my ceramics to be highly finished and finely crafted while retaining a fluid and organic quality that reflects and celebrates the materials used.

As an art historian, I am interested in making work that engages in a considered way both with historical traditions in ceramics and with wider histories of art and ideas, and my intention is that this principle will guide my ceramics practice as it evolves.
